3 police officers fired, one resigns, one suspended

3 West Reading officers fired

WEST READING, Pa. - Three officers on the West Reading Police Department have been fired.

Officer Matthew Beighley, who was accused of illegally using his Taser, was one of those officers who lost his job.

The West Reading Council made the announcement Friday night but officials declined to say why the officers were fired.

The department had been rocked by controversy involving a stun gun.

Just this week Beighley  had been placed in a year-long probationary program because officials say he illegally used his Taser on fellow officers and on his father last August.

In addition to the three fired officers, another officer submitted his resignation.

Council also suspended yet another officer for 30 days without pay.
