69-WFMZ-TV nominated for 4 Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards

PHILADELPHIA - 69-WFMZ-TV has been honored with four 2014 Emmy Award nominations.

The nominations were announced Tuesday night in Philadelphia by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences' Mid-Atlantic Chapter.

69 News: Berks Edition, produced by Kevin Fitzsimmons, was nominated for excellence in a regularly scheduled evening newscast;

The 2013 Freddy Awards, aired live on 69-WFMZ-TV, was nominated for excellence in coverage of schools, teaching or education;

Reporter Catherine Hawley and photojournalists April Chunko and Lee Jenkins were nominated for excellence in coverage of health, medical topics, or subject matter for their series, Confronting Cancer;

and Matt Schaffer was nominated for his work as a photojournalist.

"Congratulations to all our Emmy [Award] nominees," said Brad Rinehart, the station's news director. "These are well deserved honors"

The Berks Edition newscast has won Emmy Awards for excellence in 2005 and 2012; the Freddy Awards broadcast won awards in 2005 and 2011.

69-WFMZ-TV also congratulates Fleetwood Area High School and Butter Productions for their documentary, Misa's Fugue, receiving two Emmy Award nominations, one in the documentary category; the other for writer-program.

The documentary, which aired on 69-WFMZ-TV in January, is the true story of one boy's journey through Prague, Terezin, Auschwitz, Mauthausen, Melk, and Gunskirchen as a victim of arbitrary Nazi oppression.

"The experience of making this film and sharing it with so many people has been phenomenal in and of itself," said producer Jennifer Goss. "To see this film be recognized by some of the leaders in the television industry is simply unbelievable. We never set out to do this [be nominated] four years ago, and to have this happen is such a privilege."

The 2014 Emmy Awards will be presented in Philadelphia on Sat., Sept. 20.
