Accident leads to spilled asphalt on Route 222 in Muhlenberg

Driver ejected from pickup truck, transported to hospital

MUHLENBERG TWP., Pa. - An accident involving a truck that spilled its load of asphalt injured the driver late Wednesday morning.

The pickup, with a trailer attached, was traveling south on Route 222, between Routes 61 and 183, in Muhlenberg Township around 10 a.m. when something caused the trailer to sway, police said.

The pickup went off the road and rolled over, ejecting the driver, whose name was not released.

The driver was taken by ambulance to Reading Hospital, said police, who could provide no information about the extent of his injuries.

PennDOT crews were dispatched to the scene to assist with cleaning up the spilled asphalt.
