Accident victim thanks stranger who helped in time of need

Larry Stroup and his wife were driving down Route 662 in Ruscombmanor Township last Wednesday afternoon when they lost control of their vehicle.

"When I applied my brakes the truck instantly started to skid. When I tried to correct the skid, we ran into the snowbank," said accident victim Larry Stroup.

Stroup said his truck hit the snowbank, flipped over and started sliding down Route 662.

When the vehicle finally came to a rest, he had only one concern: escaping the truck.

"I could smell smoke and was worried about getting out of the vehicle," said Stroup.

Stroup tried opening the doors but was unsuccessful. That is when he saw the feet of Kylar Meier, a 19-year-old stranger who came to the rescue.

Stroup said Meier kicked out the window and then spread his sweatshirt over the glass so the couple could escape.

"You cannot even really say how grateful you are. It just means a lot that someone would stop and be as conscientious as he was to do that and to help people out," said Stroup.

Both Stroup and his wife were wearing their seat belts. Luckily, the couple walked away from the accident with just some minor cuts.

The couple was a bit disoriented after the accident and they said it really helped to have someone there to wait with them until help arrived. They would encourage all drivers to do the same.
