Al Boscov withholds bid on struggling mall in Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. - Al Boscov didn't bid on a struggling mall in Scranton because he said the asking price was too high.

The Mall at Steamtown was sold at a sheriff's sale on Tuesday to agents for the mall's owners for $37 million.

Boscov, the chairman of Exeter Township-based Boscov's department stores, said in April that he was considering bidding on the mall.

Boscov's is the mall's main anchor. Boscov said the Scranton store is doing well and he has no plans to close it, no matter who owns the mall.
