Coach accused of covering up rape surrenders to police

A Kutztown High School assistant field hockey coach accused of failing to tell police about an alleged rape has turned herself in.

Alicia Colon tried to cover up the alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl out of fear of losing her position, police said.

Colon was arraigned Wednesday on charges of hindering apprehension, endangering the welfare of children and corruption of minors. She was freed on $50,000 bail.

Police said the rape happened in a hotel in Lower Swatara Twp., Dauphin Co., near Harrisburg, in August.

The man charged in connection with the rape is Rafael Gomez-Echavarria. He's in the Berks County Jail.
