Amber Alert cancelled for child abducted from Cumru home

Police have recovered Aedan Michael Mauger

Amber Alert cancelled for 20-month-old boy from Berks

CUMRU TWP., Pa. - The Pennsylvania State Police have cancelled an Amber Alert for a toddler taken by his mother in Berks County.

Aedan Michael Mauger, 20-months-old, and his mother, Jessica Mauger, 24, were found in Lancaster County. Aedan is now in the custody of his father, Jessica's boyfriend.

According to Cumru Township police, Jessica will undergo an evaluation, but no criminal charges will be filed. She has legal custody of her son, so a kidnapping did not really occur, police said.

The results of her evaluation will determine when Aedan will be returned to her custody. Mauger left behind a suicide note and took two bottles of pills and a bottle of rum with her, police said.

Police said that the circumstances of their disappearance and the concern it created led to the Amber Alert being issued Tuesday night.

"She left a suicide note saying she just wanted to go to sleep, not ever wake up again," said Thomas Slovik, Jessica's stepfather.

Aedan was taken Tuesday afternoon from 1037 Bedford Ave. in Cumru Township, near Shillington, according to state police.

She was expected to appear at her boyfriend's house in Reading, but she never showed up, police said.

Jessica's stepfather said the whole fiasco started because she broke up with her boyfriend.

"She left the house distraught over losing her boyfriend, or whatever. Based on the note, it was losing her boyfriend," Slovik said.

Throughout Tuesday night, Jessica made posts on Facebook while police frantically searched the region.

In one post she wrote, "I'm fine. My son is fine. I'm going to pick up my man right now because he's the only person I want to talk to right now. Everybody else can leave me the [expletive] alone."
