Annual blood drive takes on a competitive twist

UNION TWP., Pa. - High school students in Berks County are out for blood.

Daniel Boone Area High School held its annual blood drive on Tuesday. The drive is in honor of former student Angela Hohl, who passed away in 2003 after a battle with leukemia.

Since then, Daniel Boone students and volunteers have come together for one of the area's biggest blood drives, and this year's drive is turning into a friendly competition.

"So this year, Reading High has actually challenged us and said that they're going to beat our numbers, but we're here to show them that that's not going to happen," said Cameron Nicoline, Daniel Boone's blood drive coordinator.

At last check, both schools were about neck-and-neck, with roughly 250 donors each.
