Glenside homicide suspect surrenders to police

READING, Pa. - A man being sought by Reading police on criminal homicide charges has given himself up.

Anthony David Alvarez surrendered to police Tuesday morning. A warrant for his arrest was issued Monday in connection with the deadly shooting of Joseph "Sonny" Torres.

The homicide happened early Saturday morning outside Torres' ex-girlfriend's apartment on Avenue D in Glenside.

According to court documents, an argument erupted inside between Alvarez and a girl over $20. Torres tried to calm the situation, and when the men went outside to smoke a cigarette, Torres was shot, police said.

Torres managed to tell paramedics who pulled the trigger, but he later died during surgery at Reading Hospital, said police.

Torres left behind three young children.
