App gives Muhlenberg residents access to trash, recycling info.

MUHLENBERG TWP., Pa. - Muhlenberg Township is giving its residents easy access to information about trash, recycling, and special waste collections.

The township announced Tuesday that it has signed on with Recycle Coach to launch a mobile and web app that provides details about collection schedules.

"Residents simply download the app and set up their customized reminders. This includes not only the township collections, but the larger special collections held several times a year by the Berks County Solid Waste Authority," said Joe Mench, director of IT and communications.

The app also has special features, including a search function that lets residents quickly find information about what to do with regular or out-of-the-ordinary items, and tips for reducing and recycling waste in apartment and condo buildings.

"This is an efficient and easy way for us to connect with residents about our trash and recycling program," Mench said. "We will be able to update the mobile and web app as necessary throughout the year so it will always be current. Residents will never forget a collection day, and that should lead to increased recycling rates, which is our goal."

The app is free to download from the iTunes Store and Google Play.

The township said it will continue to distribute printed materials and have information on the website for residents who prefer traditional promotional and educational materials.
