Ashley Furniture employees present families in need with food, toys, clothing

Families in need given toys, clothing as presents

ONTELAUNEE TWP., Pa. - Christmas is just nine days away, and in an effort to help those in need, Ashley Furniture gave away $9,000 worth of presents to families in the area.

The company's employees handed out box after box of toys and clothing, along with food for the holidays, to needy families from the Schuylkill Valley School District on Monday.

"We organized this event so that we could take some stress off some families this holiday season," said Ryan Postal, health, safety and security manager for Ashley Furniture.

Ashley Furniture provided the gifts to 14 families. Brigitte Jeter, a mom of six, said she was especially grateful.

"I do not have a lot of a family that supports me and it is just such a blessing to see people help. I always try to help others and it is just a blessing that people are helping my family now," said Brigitte Jeter, of Mohrsville.

Jeter has six children, all under the age of 11. Her husband suffered a traumatic brain injury in a car accident and she suffered from heart failure after giving birth to their sixth child. She said it has been quite a year, and now they can look forward to Christmas morning.

"Oh yes. It is going to be nice. They are going to be really surprised and it is going to be a good day," said Jeter.

Ashley Furniture has been hosting the Ashley's Angels giveaway for a number of years and the spokesperson said he hopes it continues to grow in the future.

"We would like to help more than 50 kids. If it was up to us we would help everybody in the school district, but we have to build up our base and build up what we can give for next year," said Postal.
