Bahamas police continue to probe deadly stabbing of Berks man

Berks man slain in Bahamas

RUSCOMBMANOR TWP., Pa. - Police in the Bahamas are continuing to investigate the deadly stabbing of a Berks County man.

Carl Yerger, 45, of Ruscombmanor Township, was killed at a resort in Bimini while on a business trip, officials said.

At this point, officials believe the stabbing may have been a random act.

Four males were taken into custody in relation with the stabbing, but there is no word yet on if charges have or will be filed. His cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy.

Yerger, an owner of Custom Milling and Consulting, leaves behind a wife and two young sons. He is remembered as a beloved leader in the community.

Yerger served as president of the Oley Valley Youth League for a little more than a year.

The league has suspended all of its games for this weekend out of respect for Yerger.

The league's board of directors praised Yerger for his service to the community.

A statement from the youth league's board of directors said Yerger, during his tenure as president, "inspired everyone he met and energized the small but tight knit sports community of Oley."

"Forward thinking, intelligent, and thoughtful, Carl volunteered endless hours as he began to modernize the sports programs and nonprofit model of the Youth League," the league's statement continued.

"Carl demonstrated every quality we could ask for in a leader. He was unique, caring, ambitious, detailed, organized, courageous, a problem solver, and mediator. He was patient and a great man that led with his words and more importantly with his actions. He led with class and a smile. His efforts earned him the support and loyalty of both new and long-time volunteers and coaches."

"The Oley Valley Youth League sends our deepest condolences and prayers to his loving wife and family."
