Bank robbed, pair of Wilson schools put on lockdown

'We all hid in our room'

LOWER HEIDELBERG TWP., Pa. - The robbery of a bank in Berks County put a pair of nearby schools on lockdown Tuesday afternoon.

The holdup happened around 2 p.m. at the Citizens Bank at 4641 Penn Avenue in Lower Heidelberg Township, near Sinking Spring.

The robber told a bank teller he had a gun and demanded money, police said. He then fled in the pictured car, which was said to have a discolored hood and a missing driver's side front hubcap.

Police declined to say how much money he got away with.

As a precaution, the Wilson School District said it instituted a lockdown at Green Valley Elementary and Wilson West Middle schools, keeping the students inside the buildings past their normal dismissal times.

"We were in the middle of our math class at our school and we just got a message on the loud speaker that we were going into lockdown, and we all hid in our room, and it went for about 30 to 40 minutes, about" said Cameron Dean, a 5th grade student at Green Valley Elementary.

Once police determined that the robber was out of the area, the lockdown was lifted, but parents were advised that their children's buses may be delayed.
