Ready, set, ski! Bear Creek opens slopes for season

'The snow is great'

LONGSWAMP TWP., Pa. - The recent snow and cold weather are a welcome sight at Bear Creek Mountain Resort in Berks County, where the ski trails are now open for another season.

The trails opened at 10 a.m. Saturday to a large number of winter sports enthusiasts.

Skiers and snowboarders there said things are off to a great start on the slopes.

"They're all open and the snow is great. There aren't any bare spots. It's not icy. It's been great," said Cory Scheibe of West Chester.

Bear Creek officials are optimistic this season will not be a repeat of last season, when some warm spells forced the resort to suspend snow-related operations.

The resort is hoping to have the ski season run all the way through late-March.
