Berks Arts Council to recognize John Ernesto with 2014 Pagoda Award

READING, Pa. - John Ernesto, the Reading Eagle's marketing director, has retired after a nearly half-century career with the newspaper company.

Among the accolades Ernesto is receiving for his long-standing dedication to the community is the Berks Arts Council's 2014 Pagoda Award for Community Leadership and Commitment.

Ernesto has been involved with Berks Jazz Fest since its inception in 1990 and has served as its general manager since 1995. He has also supported a variety of other arts organizations in Berks County, including the Reading Pops Orchestra and the Reading Musical Foundation.

The presentation of the Pagoda Award, along with a special concert in Ernesto's honor, will take place next Monday at 7 p.m. at Building 24 in Wyomissing.

Berks Jazz Fest favorites Rick Braun, Gerald Veasley, Chuck Loeb and Brian Bromberg will perform in celebration of Ernesto's work.

The event will also launch the fundraising efforts for the 25th edition of the Berks Jazz Fest, scheduled for April 10 through 19, 2015.

The inaugural "John Ernesto Volunteer Recognition Award" will also be presented to Mark Burford and Pauline Heckman, two longtime Berks Arts Council and Berks Jazz Fest volunteers.

Tickets for the event cost $50 each and are available through the Berks Arts Council by calling 610-898-1930.
