Saints and Bears end playoff runs in PIAA tournament

Berks Catholic, Boyertown fall in state openers

The Berks Catholic and Boyertown baseball teams lost in the opening round of their respective PIAA baseball tournaments on Monday.

At La Salle College High School, Neumann-Goretti rallied for a 5-3 win over Berks Catholic in the first round of the PIAA-AA tournament.

The Saints scored three early runs, but were shut out the rest of the way. The Saints finish 17-8 on the season and won the District III championship this year.

At Ashburn Field in Philadelphia, La Salle College topped Boyertown, 6-3, in the first round of the PIAA-AAAA tournament.

The Bears scored all their runs in the 7th inning, but could not complete the comeback.

Boyertown finishes the season at 20-6 and played for a District I title.
