Berks Catholic girls, Wilson WL boys advance; Exeter boys falter

B.C. girls, Wilson WL boys advance; Exeter boys ousted

BERKS COUNTY, Pa. - The (7) Berks Catholic girls got the better of (10) Fleetwood for the second time in little more than a week.

The Saints cruised past the Tigers, 55-41, on Wednesday night in the District opener for both teams.

The win comes just over a week after Berks Catholic defeated Fleetwood, 59-31, in the county semifinals.

The Saints' Susan Bossler led all scorers with 17 points. Katrina Balatgek added 13.

Fleetwood had three scorers in double figures. Maureen McGarry had 12, Cyre Virgo scored 11 and Xiomara Toledo registered 10.

Berks Catholic advanced to the District quarterfinals where it will face (2) West York at noon on Saturday at Milton Hershey.


Down the road in Spring Township, the Wilson West Lawn boys took care of business in their District opener, defeating Lampeter-Strasburg, 65-51, on Wednesday night.

Bryan Fegley led the Bulldogs with 15 points. Travaun Coad added 13, Jaylin Calloway had 12 and Matt Timochenko poured in 10.


Wilson advanced to play the winner of (5) Exeter and (12) Carlisle. The Bulldogs will not get a rematch with their Berks I rivals.

The Thundering Herd upset the Eagles, 52-38, on Wednesday night in Reiffton.

Wilson will face Carlisle on Saturday at 1:00 at a site to be determined.
