Berks company's fruit offered in Sheetz's new 'Kids Mealz'

'There is something for even the pickiest eater'

ALTOONA, Pa. - Sheetz is offering its young customers a taste of Berks County in the convenience store chain's new meals for children.

The Altoona-based company announced Tuesday an expansion of its "Made-to-Order" menu to include 15 different, customizable Kidz Mealz.

"Sheetz's Kidz Mealz include healthy and classic options and are made with only the highest quality ingredients," said Dan Coffin, Sheetz's assistant vice president of culinary development. "Featuring breakfast, lunch and dinner, Kidz Mealz include a main entree such as egg white shmuffins, turkey sandwiches, quesadillas, chicken wraps, burgerz, chicken stripz and more."

Among the sides being offered is a package of Centre Township-based Appeeling Fruit's apple slices, along with grapes and strawberry yogurt. Drink options include low-fat milk and apple juice.

"There is something for even the pickiest eater," Coffin said.

The Kidz Mealz's options adhere to the National Restaurant Association's LiveWell requirements, according to the company.

The Kidz Mealz are available at all 560 Sheetz locations in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. The company has eight stores in Berks County.

Appeeling Fruit, a family-owned company founded in 1991, provides packaged apple slices to a variety of restaurants, retailers, and schools across the country.
