Berks County man charged in child porn investigation

Police said he contacted two teenage girls

READING, Pa. - Authorities in Berks County said a Bernville man facing child pornography charges exchanged sexually explicit communications two teenage girls in Texas and South Carolina.

The Berks County District Attorney's Office announced the arrest of James D. Huber, of Penn Street. The 32-year-old surrendered to county detectives Thursday, and he was arraigned in the afternoon by District Judge Andrea Book, who set bail at $25,000.

Huber has since posted bail.

Detectives with the district attorney's child abuse unit started an investigation in October 2016 about the possible uploading of child pornography from the internet. Authorities identified an internet address assigned to Huber.

Investigators obtained and served a search warrant in February, seizing a cell phone and a computer. A forensic examination allegedly turned up "numerous digital files" containing pictures and videos of child pornography, according to the prosecutor's office.

The investigation also revealed that Huber "participated in sexually explicit electronic communications" with a 16-year-old girl from Texas and a 13-year-old girl from South Carolina, according to the prosecutor.

Authorities charged Huber with single counts of child pornography, criminal use of a communication device and disseminating child pornography and two counts each of unlawful contact with a minor and sexual abuse of a minor, all felonies. He also faces two misdemeanor counts of corruption of minors.

His next court date is a preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled for June 7.
