Berks County sheriff sergeant promoted to captain

READING, Pa. - Berks County sheriff Sergeant Mandy Miller is now a captain, leading the courts division.

Courts is the office's largest division, with 35 deputies. It's responsible for transporting more than 10,000 prisoners each year to and from the Berks County Jail for court and for maintaining security in the courtrooms and the sheriff's cell block.

The division is also responsible for transporting juvenile defendants.

Miller has been with the sheriff's office since 1997, serving as sergeant since 2008.
