A Berks County woman is sharing her real-life shark's tale after encountering a great white off the coast of New Jersey.
Courtney Stacherski and her fiancé got much more than they bargained for during a fishing trip with friends this past weekend.
"We were just like, 'Wow, this is absolutely amazing,'" said Stacherski, who couldn't believe what she saw.
The once-in-a-lifetime shark encounter was caught on camera. Stacherski's fiancé was rolling when the great white terrorized their boat down the Jersey shore on Saturday.
"She just came up out of the water and you see this mouth open. It actually took us until she grabbed the bag to realize what she was actually doing and it was unbelievable," said Stacherski.
The shark ripped the bag of bait right off the boat. Stacherski had the day off from work and agreed to join her fiancé for a day on the water. She tagged along with his friends down the shore. They left out of Avalon and were about 30 miles off of Cape May, near the "28 mile Wreck," when the 16-foot shark circled the boat.Great white shark spotted off Jersey shore
"At one point, we couldn't find her and I said, 'Oh, she's over here on my side of the boat,' and his friend had said, 'No, she's on my side of the boat, too.' She was that long," said Stacherski.
The great white is estimated to be between 1,200 and 1,400 pounds. The video was first posted on YouTube and it has gone viral ever since. Stacherski said her fiancé's phone has been ringing off the hook from places all around the world
Stacherski said both she and the crew on board were never really scared by the shark, but they knew at one point it was time to bail.
"She actually came around and had her mouth around the propeller and the motor," she said.
Stacherski said she is not afraid to go back in the water. She called the shark sighting an amazing experience and she would do it again in a heartbeat.
