Berks father hopes he'll be reunited with missing son

'I just hope he's OK. I hope he's safe.'

ST. LAWRENCE, Pa. - The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children is calling attention to a case from Berks County.

The organization has just released a new video about Daniel Markus, who has been missing since November 2014.

Daniel was 2 years old when he was allegedly abducted by his mother, Maria Cabrera Gutierrez, from his St. Lawrence home. His father, Guy Markus of Exeter Township, is stilling holding onto hope that they'll be reunited.

"I don't wish this on my worst enemy," said Markus in an emotional interview with 69 News.

The father said Cabrera-Gutierrez ran away with the boy amid a bitter custody battle. A federal warrant has been issued for Cabrera-Gutierrez's arrest.

"I still miss -- feel that a huge piece, my son is missing," added Markus, "and he gave so much more meaning to my life."

On Thursday, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children launched a video with a plea from Markus and Daniel's sister, Estefani Mendez, to bring Daniel home safe.

According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Central Berks Regional Police Department, Cabrera-Gutierrez could possibly be in the San Antonio, Texas, area or traveling to Mexico.

Markus said he hope his little boy is safe.

"I just hope he's OK. I hope he's safe. I hope he's being treated well," said Markus.

Markus has set aside $10,000 of his personal funds as a cash reward to be reunited with his son.

Anyone with information is urged to call the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children 800-THE-LOST (800-843-5678) or Central Berks Regional police at 610-655-4911.
