Berks stores have no trouble selling snowblowers on warm February day

READING, Pa. - Spring-like temperatures in Berks County on Wednesday will yield to the cold reality of winter. We could be in for several inches of snow, reminding people that, yes, it is February.

"Tomorrow, it's going to get cold, so it's going to be fun for the kids to play in snow," said Reading park-goer Valeria Safe. "I'm really actually excited today that we came to the park to enjoy this very beautiful weather."

But for local hardware stores, sales of winter staples like snowblowers and shovels, haven't exactly been beautiful.

"Sales have been pretty slow the past few months," said Cody Heffner, manager at Kuzan's Hardware on Route 91 in Perry Township

The store got a bit of a perk on Wednesday, and Heffner is hoping for a repeat on Thursday.

"As long as we get what they're predicting, I'm sure we'll have a lot of customers tomorrow for snowblowers, shovels, salt," said Heffner.

The store officials said they have about six snowblower units on Wednesday, which they said is great, considering we're already so many months into the winter weather season.

"I can't remember a time when it was such a drastic change like that," said Heffner.

Thursday will look to be our first true taste of winter this year.
