Berks shelters offer adoption deals for Valentine's Day

Berks shelters offer adoption deals...

The right pet can melt your heart, so what better day than Valentine's Day to pick one up?

"So, we are doing a Valentine's Day promo," said Chelsea Cappellano, office coordinator for the Humane Society in Reading. "Essentially, all of our adoptable animals are $14."

Both the Humane Society and the Animal Rescue League in Cumru Township are holding discount adoption events on February 14.

"Every adoption will include our 30-day health guarantee, so that will include every animal being spayed or neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped," said Cappellano.

The ARL is offering all single pets, those that can't be in a home with other animals, for $14.

"We are trying to promote them and try to get them their forever homes, just because nobody is really looking for them right now," said Tori Williams, foster coordinator with the ARL.

"We also have a little bit of an increase on rabbits and critters, so we'll be searching for a home for them as well," Cappellano said.

Currently, the Humane Society is averaging 100 adoptions a month, but over at the ARL, officials are seeing an increase in the number of animals coming in.

"Since our kennels are getting pretty full, we are trying to get our single animals out of the house," said Williams.

Both shelters are filled with what could be a special Valentine's Day gift for you or someone close to you.
