Birdsboro church closes its doors after 180 years

Church closes

BIRDSBORO, Pa. - The congregation at Alice Focht Memorial United Methodist Church in Birdsboro held its final service Sunday.

With dwindling membership, church officials said the small group of worshippers decided the time had finally come to disband the congregation.

Members of the church said they spent the service reflecting on all of the positive memories, but still, it was a somber occasion.

"It's a lot of memories and it's a lot of good times," Suzanne Lander said. "A lot of spiritual support for me and my family over the years."

Members like Stephanie Haddad said the church has been a part of her family for generations.

"It's definitely hard to find another congregation that feels like family and feels like home," Haddad said.

Alice Focht UMC has served Birdsboro and the surrounding communities for more than 180 years, and while the church may now be disbanded, all of the memories and life lessons will live on.
