Birdsboro residents told to boil water first

Power outage prompts boil water advisory in Birdsboro

BIRDSBORO, Pa. - Residents of one Berks County community are being advised to boil their water before using it.

Birdsboro officials told people who live on the west side of the borough Wednesday that they should not drink the water unless they boil it for one minute and let it cool before using.

Residents can also use bottled water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and preparing food until further notice.

The advisory followed a drop in the Birdsboro Water Department system pressure, caused when the pump house lost electricity during Tuesday night's storm, officials said.

Officials said they expect repairs to fix the problem to take up to 48 hours.

This applies only to those who received a boil water advisory, not the entire borough, officials said.
