Blue Marsh Lake reopens boat ramps; water level still above normal

BERN TWP., Pa. - Boaters are once again welcome at Blue Marsh Lake in Berks County.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reopened the lake's three boat launches -- State Hill, Dry Brooks and Sheidy -- Monday morning.

The ramps had been closed since last week's downpours caused the level of the lake to rise about 5-1/2 feet above normal.

Officials waited until Thursday night to begin releasing water through the lake's dam as a way of minimizing flooding downstream.

Since the lake is still above its normal summer level, officials advise boaters to use caution and be on the lookout for debris in the water.

Hikers, bikers and horseback riders are also urged to use caution on the trail because some sections may still be flooded or covered by debris.
