Body found near brush fire

ROBESON TWP., Pa. - Firefighters battling a brush fire in Berks County found a man's body at the scene.

Crews got the call around 1 p.m. Sunday to respond to a field at 730 Rock Hollow Rd. in Robeson Township.

George Bernhard appears to have been burning tree stumps in his yard when the fire got out of control, state police said.

Bernhard, 88, died of natural causes while trying to regain control of the fire, police said.

Officials are trying to figure out whether there was a medical issue or if smoke inhalation was the cause of his death, which does not appear suspicious.

An acre of ground was damaged by the burn.
