Boy Scouts' index of 'perversion files' includes local names

PORTLAND, Ore. - A portion of the Boy Scouts' so-called "perversion files" has been made public, and the list includes the names of some people from Berks County and the Lehigh Valley.

The list was posted online by a Seattle attorney who has represented victims of sexual abuse in lawsuits against the Boy Scouts.

The index of records details more than 1,900 volunteers who were kicked out of the organization between 1971 and 1991 for alleged inappropriate contact with children. The posting does not include copies of the actual files.

One of the listed people is a Reading man who pleaded guilty in 1988 to a corruption of minors charge and was sentenced to at least four years in prison, according to court documents. Other charges were dismissed.

Similar records, dating from 1966 to 1985, are expected to be released soon.
