Boyertown photographer shares his adventures

A Boyertown man traveled to 40 different countries and photographed his journey along the way.

Now he is sharing those pictures in a book and hoping to inspire others to travel as well.

"I did not know where to go. So I decided to go everywhere," said Andy Schön, photographer.

Boyertown native Schön is talking about the moment he finished his master's degree and decided to start traveling.

He started small, taking road trips to all the lower 48 states. Then decided to travel internationally.

From 2003 to 2011 he traveled to 40 different countries and all seven continents.

"The thing I love the most is looking for places, corners of the world that are so incredibly beautiful and unique, that it seems like you are on another planet," said Schön.

He now has quite a few stories to tell and decided to compile them into a book titled "15 Times Around the World: A lion bit me in Zimbabwe, and other travel adventures."

"I got bit by a lion in Zimbabwe. That is pretty memorable. My other favorites were camping in Antarctica, speeding ATV's along the dunes of the Kalahari Desert and fishing for piranhas in the Amazon River," said Schön.

Alongside the international pictures are local sights from the Oley Fair and his brother's farm.

Schön believes he was fortunate to have the opportunity to travel. But it still took him 165 flights and eight years to do it.

So he hopes his book will allow people to travel the world without leaving their seats and just maybe inspire others to take an adventure too.

The book is already available on Amazon and other bookstores such as Barnes and Noble.

Signed copies of the book will be available at Book Nook in Boyertown starting Thursday October 23rd.
