Brandywine's Peter Renda to wrestle for state gold

HERSHEY, Pa. -  There were a pair of Berks County wrestlers vying for spots in the AA state championship round Friday night

It turns out, both were from Brandywine Heights.

Peter Renda and Adam Mackie both had tough semifinal showdowns they had to win if they wanted to wrestle for gold on Saturday.

At 170 pounds, Renda knocked off Union City's Tim Vargo 10-0 to earn a place in Saturday afternoon's state championship bout. He will face Bermudian Springs' Tristan Sponseller.

At 182 pounds, Renda's teammate Adam Mackie came up on the short end of a 2-1 decision to Muncy's Troy Hembury in their semifinal. Mackie will face Saegertown's Dylan Reynolds in the third-place bout Saturday.
