Car runs stop sign, collides with BARTA bus, police say

Car's driver, bus passengers transported to area hospitals

READING, Pa. - An accident involving a car and a BARTA bus put the brakes on midday traffic in part of downtown Reading on Tuesday.

The car went through the stop sign at North Third and Court streets and collided with the Schuylkill Avenue bus shortly before 2:30 p.m., officials said.

Initial reports from the scene were that a police car was also involved in the accident, but that turned out not to be the case.

Several people, including the driver of the car and some passengers on the bus, were transported to area hospitals, but their injuries did not appear to be serious.

Other passengers on the bus were transferred to another bus to continue their journey.

North Third Street was closed between Penn and Washington streets while paramedics tended to the injured victims and crews cleared the wreckage.
