Car submerged by floodwater in Spring Street Subway

READING, Pa. - Fast-falling rain quickly flooded one of Reading's most notorious problem spots during such storms.

The Spring Street Subway quickly filled with water Thursday afternoon, leaving one car submerged up to the windows with the driver inside.

City firefighters were dispatched for a rescue, but the man managed to get out of the car on his own and wade through the water to safety on the North Sixth Street side of the subway.

Police put barricades in place to prevent anyone else from attempting to drive through the water before it could recede.

From Spring Street to Spring Township

A 69 News viewer shared a photo of street flooding in the West Lawn area of Spring Township. "Crazy rain river," she called it.
