Caught with cocaine, man fights with cops in bar, police say

Suspect twice shocked with Taser during struggle

READING, Pa. - A man found with dozens of packets of cocaine in a bar bathroom didn't go to jail without a fight, according to Reading police.

A pair of RPD officers were conducting a bar check in the 200 block of Penn Street on Tuesday when they came across the suspect, identified as Jeffery Dean Bell II, counting baggies of cocaine in the bathroom of a bar, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

One of the officers pulled out his Taser and ordered Bell to put up his hands, but the suspect charged at the officer, who then twice deployed the stun gun, according to the court documents

Bell then pinned one of the officers against the bathroom door before they both ended up on the bar floor and eventually outside the building, where the struggle between Bell and the two officers continued until backup arrived, police said.

An inventory of Bell's possessions turned up a clear bag of bulk cocaine, 49 packets of cocaine, a bag of marijuana, and packaging material, according to the court paperwork.

Bell, 34, of Sinking Spring, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and various drug offenses. He was committed to the Berks County Jail on $75,000 bail.
