READING, Pa. - A church in Reading has been targeted for the second time this week. This time, more than $5,000 worth of sound equipment was stolen.
"They forced it and they took it off," said Miguel Torres, Visions for Today Church member.
Torres described how he believes thieves broke into the church on South 8th Street in Reading.
His pastor arrived Friday morning to find several pieces of sound equipment, totaling more than $5,000, gone.
"The church is really sad because we have been serving this community for almost 16 years. It is really sad for the church and this loss," said Torres.
But this is not the first time the church has been hit. On Monday, someone broke in through the utility room and stole money out of the soda machine. The church immediately boarded up the door, but that did not stop thieves from breaking in through a window Thursday night.
Torres said the church has been very active in the community, feeding more than 100 homeless people every third Saturday. So he is shocked someone would target their church.
"Anytime the neighborhood needs anything, we are here to help them, so we were not really expecting something like that. It is really sad that they take advantage, that we are a church to abuse," said Torres.
The church has a service at 7 p.m. Friday. With virtually all of the sound equipment taken, members do not know how to move forward.
"We are going to have to start over again," said Torres.
