READING, Pa. - Concerned citizens in Reading say Thursday they want a say in the future of the Reading Area Water Authority.
"What we have right now is a request to you concerned citizens to please support this initiative," said Michael Schorn.
The new group "Our City, Our Water" is launching a ballot initiative to amend the city charter.
Members will be circulating petitions in the coming weeks. They want any proposal to sell, lease or enter into a private agreement involving major city assets to be put in the hands of the voters.
Reading Mayor Vaughn Spencer and City Council are currently at odds over the future of the water authority.
Spencer wants a long term lease with the authority; council is in the process of dissolving the water authority.
