READING, Pa. - Two vacant lots in Reading are now full of life.
The Berks County Conservancy's urban greening program helped create two community gardens, both of which were dedicated Wednesday.
The Eisenhower and Rhodes Community Garden at South Ninth and Franklin streets is looking very good; the Hubert Community Garden is also taking shape.
"As a result of these community gardens, we hope to provide the immediate communities with a sense of pride, accomplishment, and community spirit," said Kimberly J. Murphy, president, Berks Conservancy. "Gardens need attention, and gardeners bring action and energy to the neighborhood."
Folks who live near the gardens can grow their own vegetables, herbs and flowers.
To date, the program has established 12 community gardens in Berks County.
