Congressman Dent hosts forum on growing heroin problem

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - US Congressman Charlie Dent hosted a forum tonight in Kutztown about the growing problem of heroin and prescription drug abuse.

Officials said the Kutztown and Brandywine Heights school districts have lost six recent graduates to drug overdoses, most to heroin. The communities are now doing everything they can make sure kids and young adults are aware of the dangers of drug abuse.

"It's all about having the relationships and making sure that we're reaching out to our kids, to younger youth. Giving them positive opportunities, giving them hope," said Andrew Potteiger, Superintendent of the Brandywine Heights Area School District.

DEA and other law enforcement officials were on hand for tonight's forum.
The audience also heard from medical professionals about the issue.
