Construction delays opening of school near Hamburg

PERRY TWP., Pa. - Elementary students in the Hamburg Area School District are getting a longer summer vacation.

Construction at Perry Elementary Center is not complete, so elementary students will now start on Sept. 2, district officials said Monday.

Principal Stanley Gravish said the extra week is a big help.

"This extra week gives us, the contractors and especially the teachers some time to get into the classrooms and get their classrooms ready for students," Gravish said.

The district and local YMCA are working to establish some day camps for students who won't be in class.

High school and middle school students are still scheduled to start on Aug. 25.
