Coroner IDs man struck, killed by train in Berks

Victim was Christopher L. Wallace, 47

WERNERSVILLE, Pa. - Authorities have identified the man who was fatally struck by a train in Berks County on Saturday.

Christopher L. Wallace, 47, died when he was hit by the train on Norfolk Southern tracks behind South Elm Street in Wernersville, according to the Berks County coroner's office.

The coroner was called to the scene around 5:30 p.m.

Wallace was seen lying on the tracks as the train approached and sat up when its horn blew, but he couldn't get out of the way in time, officials said.

Wallace was an inmate of the Wernersville Community Corrections Center in neighboring South Heidelberg Township.

Authorities have ruled his death an accident, but they said they think alcohol could be involved.
