Coroner: Motel fire victim died of smoke inhalation, burns

CAERNARVON TWP., Pa. - The coroner has determined the cause of death for a man whose body was found inside a burning motel room in southern Berks County.

David Duckinfield, 55, died of smoke inhalation and thermal burns, according to the coroner.

Duckinfield's body was found early Thursday morning after firefighters responded to a fire at the USA Inn and Suites on Mine View Drive in Caernarvon Township.

The fire was quickly put out before it could do much damage to the motel.

A state police fire marshal is still working to determine how the fire started, but reports indicate the victim may have been smoking in bed.
