Coroner: Reading homicide victim died of gunshot to head

Hector Gonzalez-Rivera's death ruled a homicide

READING, Pa. - Authorities have determined the cause of death for Reading's first homicide victim of 2018.

The Berks County coroner on Monday revealed that Hector Gonzalez-Rivera died of a gunshot wound to his head. His death was ruled a homicide.

Gonzalez-Rivera, 37, was found dead in an alley off the 1000 block of Chestnut Street on the afternoon of January 24.

RPD detectives were quick to launch a homicide investigation, despite not being able to determine how Gonzalez-Rivera died.

No arrests have been made. Police are asking anyone with information about the case to contact Crime Alert Berks County via anonymous text to 847411, starting the message with keyword alertberks, or by calling 877-373-9913.
