Counselors help classmates of Kutztown student killed in crash

Kaci Kunkel was high school senior

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - A team of counselors was on hand at Kutztown Area High School on Monday, as classes resumed for the first time since the death of a student over the weekend.

Kaci Kunkel, an 18-year-old senior at Kutztown, died when her car hit a telephone pole and rolled over on Route 143 in Lynn Township, Lehigh County, not far from the Berks County border, early Saturday morning, officials said.

"For those of you who knew Kaci, we ask that you remember and celebrate her infectious smile and her hardworking spirit," Superintendent George said in a statement on the district's website. "For those of you who did not know Kaci, we ask that you respect our sadness and support us with your understanding."

Fiore said counseling support would also be available for students in other Kutztown schools, as well as at the Berks Career and Technology Center, where she was also a student.

A memorial service for Kunkel will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Ebenezer U.C.C. in New Tripoli.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Kunkel's family.
