Crews knock out 2-alarm house fire near Bechtelsville

WASHINGTON TWP., Pa. - Multiple fire departments responded to a house fire in Berks County Friday night.

It happened in the 2100 block of Old Route 100 in Washington Township. The call came in at 9:13 p.m.

The fire spread through the basement and first and second floors, but firefighters were able to stop it from spreading to the third floor, according to fire officials with Eastern Berks Fire Department.

Officials said the heat and humidity, as well as size and complexity of the building, made fighting the fire difficult.

Old Route 100 was closed during the fire.

No one was injured.
