DA: No death penalty for Torres in exchange for return to US

READING, Pa. - The district attorney said he won't seek the death penalty against a former Berks County man who spent seven years on the run.

Under Italian law, Miguel Torres couldn't be extradited to the United States if he faced the death penalty, said District Attorney John Adams.

Torres, 42, was nabbed in Italy on Friday.

Torres, police said, shot and killed his wife, Barbara, in a parking lot in downtown Reading on Sept. 12, 2005. He remained on top of Berks County's most wanted list until his capture.
