Dozens of alleged drug dealers, users rounded up in 2-day sting

Dozens of alleged drug dealers, users busted in 2-day sting

READING, Pa. - Undercover detectives played the role of both drug dealer and drug user to nab six alleged dealers and 22 alleged users during a two-day sting in the area of South 6th and Chestnut streets in Reading, officials said.

"This is an area that has been notorious for drug dealing. We received a lot of citizen complaints. So we acted on those complaints," said Berks County District Attorney John Adams.

The majority of the arrests, Adams said, involved the sale of heroin.

Years ago, cocaine was the most prevalent drug in Reading, but after the price of heroin dropped, sales have gone up, Adams said.

"We are seeing heroin not only here in the city, but we are seeing it throughout all the communities in our county. It is the most addictive and most dangerous drug that can be attained here in our county. It has become a plague," said Adams.

Adams said detectives are also seeing a trend that people from across Berks County are coming to Reading to buy drugs.

"Do not come to the city of Reading to buy drugs. And if you have a drug problem, get help," said Adams.

Detectives said they have warrants for six additional drug dealers who could not be located during the roundup.
