Eagles championship gear flying out of stores as it arrives

Dick's sold all gear soon after delivery Tuesday

SPRING TWP., Pa. - At least one sporting goods retailer is having a hard time keeping Philadelphia Eagles championship merchandise in stock for the team's legion of fans in Berks County.

Dick's Sporting Goods at the Broadcasting Square shopping center in Spring Township told 69 News that it received two shipments of Super Bowl items on Tuesday -- one at 8 a.m. and the other at 9 a.m. -- and everything was sold within a short time after the store opened at 9 a.m. In fact, customers were waiting in line before then.

The store experienced a similar frenzy of fans looking to get their hands on championship t-shirts and hats on Monday, when it opened at 6 a.m. By late-morning, all but a few winter hats remained.

As for more merchandise, Dick's said it can't say when, or even if, the Broadcasting Square store will be receiving more shipments, but it does know that nothing more will be coming Tuesday.

Schuylkill Valley Sports in Muhlenberg Township said it still has plenty of Super Bowl merchandise available. A manager told 69 News that a steady stream of fans was flocking to the store Tuesday morning. The retailer also has locations at the Berkshire Mall in Wyomissing, the Tilden Ridge shopping center near Hamburg, and the Coventry Mall near Pottstown.

Berks County-based Boscov's said it also had Super Bowl merchandise available in its stores, four of which are located in the Reading area -- Exeter Township (East), the Fairgrounds Square Mall in Muhlenberg Township (North), the Berkshire Mall in Wyomissing, and the Coventry Mall in North Coventry Township, Chester County.
