Ephrata man critical after motorcycle crash in Spring

Other injured motorcyclist in good condition

SPRING TWP., Pa. - A Lancaster County man remained hospitalized in critical condition on Wednesday, a day after his motorcycle and another motorcycle crashed in Berks County.

The accident happened shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday at Old Fritztown and Hain roads in Spring Township. Initial reports to police were that several motorcycles had collided.

Officers said they arrived on the scene to find two men suffering from severe injuries. Both Richard Anthony Rotondo and Michael Lee Mohler were rushed to the trauma center at Reading Hospital.

Rotondo, 57, of Ephrata, was last reported to be in critical condition; Mohler, 55, of Reading, was upgraded to good condition.

Police said their investigation revealed that Rotondo was westbound on Old Fritztown when he attempted to turn left onto Hain and was hit by Mohler's motorcycle, which was also traveling west.

Neither man was wearing a helmet, police said.

Traffic was detoured around the scene for several hours while the Berks County Crash Team assisted Spring Township officers with their investigation of the accident.
