Fightin Phils fall late in Portland

Loewen's quality starred lost in defeat

Reading falls to Portland, 2-1.

PORTLAND, Me. - The Reading Fightin Phils (45-64) blew a late lead Wednesday in a 2-1 loss to the Portland Sea Dogs (71-41) at Hadlock Field.

Kelly Dugan gave Reading a lead in the 1st inning on a RBI-single off Brian Johnson. That would be the only hit they mustered. It was the first time Reading was one-hit since 2009.

Johnson settled in after that, going 7 innings and allowing just that one hit. He took over the Eastern League lead in ERA.

Fightins' starter Adam Loewen was also sharp, going six scoreless innings.

But Colton Murray allowed a late two-run double as Portland took a lead in the 8th inning and held on for the win.

The Fightin Phils dropped three of four in the series. They'll open a five-game set in New Hampshire on Thursday.
