Fire destroys building, several vehicles in Berks

Damage estimated to be $500,000

PERRY TWP., Pa. - A Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal is seeking the cause of a fire that destroyed a building in Berks County and everything inside.

The fire was reported shortly before 4 a.m. Thursday in the 500 block of Mohrsville Road in Perry Township, just south of Shoemakersville.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames engulfing a pole barn that was being used as an auto mechanic and storage building with seven garage bays, officials said.

The building and its contents, including several vehicles, were lost to the fire, but crews were able to save an adjacent building, officials said.

The fire marshal estimates the damage to be $500,000.
